Project Lucy

About

Project Lucy was born on a muggy Tuesday evening while John Dykes and his merry gang were having an hour-long passionate discussion about 22 men chasing after a ball.

Curious onlookers were wondering why a group of people were muttering about “Lucy”, “Steve” and “social media”. That’s how Project Lucy came about. There was nothing merry in this. And it wasn’t merely 22 people chasing after a cause. Thousands, or even millions, were at stake.

Was Project Lucy conceived out of love? Definitely. Love – in its various forms – was at stake. In fact, too much of it was at stake. However, we only have to point ourselves towards the Big Guy as the example of love. Too often, mere mortals fall short of this example. We cannot emulate. We cannot imitate. We can only do so much and then allow this funny thing called “grace” to take over from there.

Is there grace in Project Lucy? Perhaps, if and when it is inspired by the Holy Ghost (not Goh). There is always room for grace to prevail.

Is there an agenda behind Project Lucy? Humans didn’t attempt to build the Tower of Babel (no, not the Liverpool player) for nothing, did they? Whatever we do, we always have an agenda (whether we admit it is another thing).

And the agenda for Project Lucy is to highlight observations and conversations pertaining to a momentous event that took place on a Saturday afternoon (and night). From here, the hope remains that it will lead to something constructive at the end of it. All too often, we know far too much, do far too little, and realise far too late.

Amos 8:11-12 (New King James Version)

“ Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord GOD,
“ That I will send a famine on the land,
Not a famine of bread,
Nor a thirst for water,
But of hearing the words of the LORD.
They shall wander from sea to sea,
And from north to east;
They shall run to and fro, seeking the word of the LORD,
But shall not find it.”
